How a Yes or No Tarot Reading Works
A yes or no tarot reading is the simplest tarot spread there is: one question, one card, one answer. Instead of a long reading with many cards, you focus on a single question and let one card speak.
This reading uses the 22 cards of the Major Arcana, the best-known part of the tarot deck, from The Fool to The World. Each card can land upright or reversed (upside down), and each position has its own meaning: yes, no or maybe.
How to Ask the Tarot a Yes or No Question
- Take a breath and think about what you really want to know.
- Phrase it as a yes or no question: "Should I apply for this job?" works better than "What will happen at work?"
- Type it in if you like. It is optional and stays in your browser.
- Pick the card that draws your eye.
- Read the answer and the short meaning that comes with it.
Ask each question once. Drawing again and again for the same question until you get the answer you want tells you something too: you already know what you hope for.
Yes, No and Maybe Cards in the Major Arcana
Tarot readers don't all agree on every card, but these are common readings, and the ones this tool uses:
- • Clear yes: The Sun, The Star, The World, The Lovers, The Chariot, The Magician, The Empress, Wheel of Fortune
- • Clear no: The Tower, The Devil, Death, The Moon
- • Maybe: The High Priestess, The Hermit, Justice, The Hanged Man
A reversed card usually weakens or turns the answer: a yes becomes a maybe or a no, and some no cards become a maybe. The Sun is the exception: reversed, it is still a yes, just a slower one.
A Bit of Fun, Not Fate
The card is drawn at random by your browser, so treat the reading as a fun way to reflect, not as a prediction. Many people find that the moment the card turns over, they feel relief or disappointment, and that feeling is the most useful answer of all.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is an online yes or no tarot reading accurate? The card is chosen at random, like shuffling a real deck. Use the reading for reflection and fun, not as a prediction of the future.
- Which tarot cards mean yes? Common yes cards are The Sun, The Star, The World, The Lovers, The Chariot, The Magician, The Empress and Wheel of Fortune when they appear upright.
- What does a reversed card mean in a yes or no reading? A reversed card usually weakens the answer. An upright yes often becomes a maybe or a no when reversed, and some no cards soften into a maybe.
- Why only the Major Arcana? The 22 Major Arcana cards carry the big, clear themes of the deck, which makes them a good fit for a single yes or no question.
