3 Party Games with the Magic 8 Ball
Guess the Answer
Before each question, everyone predicts whether the ball will say yes, no or maybe. Correct guesses score a point. The ball has 10 positive answers, 5 non-committal ones and 5 negative ones, so "yes" is the smart guess, but it still catches people out. The full list is in all 20 Magic 8 Ball answers and the odds of each.
Hot Seat
One player sits in the hot seat, and everyone else asks the ball questions about them: "Will Sam become a famous chef?", "Is Sam the messiest person here?" The player in the hot seat has to explain how the ball could be right.
Fortune Story
Go around the group, each player asking one question about an imaginary hero. Every answer becomes part of the story: if the ball says "Don't count on it" to "Will the hero find the treasure?", then the treasure is lost and the next player decides what happens next.
How to Ask a Good Question
- Make it yes or no. "What should I eat?" cannot be answered, but "Should I eat pizza?" can.
- Ask one thing at a time. "Will it rain and will I be late?" leaves the answer confusing.
- Keep it light. The answers are random, so for real decisions, use the ball for fun and your own judgement for the choice.
